Can the power of youth sports change the world?

Tri City Chargers Youth Football Teams Up with Giant Steps School for a Day of Activity and Fun

For children living with autism spectrum disorder, time spent outdoors is not only fun, it’s beneficial to their development and well-being. On June 27th, the students of Giant Steps School will have a chance to get out and play with their peers in an exciting new way as Tri City Chargers Youth Football hosts a group of students for an afternoon of activities.

On Tuesday, June 27th, the Tri City Chargers Youth Football Association will welcome Giant Steps of Illinois to their St. Charles facility for a special “Football Camp,” complete with drills, relay races, and a cookout. Upon arrival, each Giant Steps student will receive a football jersey with their name on the back and will be paired with either a local High School athlete or a Tri City football player of the same age before beginning their activities.  Activities will include football sponge tosses, tackling drills, and relay races run by Tri City coaches. The day of play will conclude with a cookout and awards ceremony, where each Giant Steps student will receive a trophy. The entire day will be graciously donated by Tri City Football and their corporate sponsors.

Founded over 30 years ago, Tri City Charger Youth Football strives to provide an opportunity for young children to learn the fundamentals of football in a safe, stress-free environment with an emphasis on sportsmanship, teamwork, and fun. The hope is that our young athletes will gain skills and knowledge through the program that transcend football, instilling in them the confidence to be successful not only in athletics, but in all facets of their young life.  The Tri City Charger Youth Football Association offers both a travel program and in-house community based league for children from kindergarten all the way through 8th grade.  Over 600 families from the tri-city area of Geneva, St. Charles, Batavia and other Kane County communities are currently signed up and participate in the program.

Located in nearby Lisle, Giant Steps of Illinois provides superior education and therapeutic services for individuals affected by autism spectrum disorder in a nurturing and respectful environment. Through the use of individualized programs that focus specifically on learning, and social and physical development, Giant Steps changes the lives of children and young adults struggling with communication, sensory interpretation, and social relationships as a result of autism spectrum disorder.

This will be the 6th consecutive year of Tri City Charger’s collaboration with Giant Steps.  With each year the costs to fund and host the event grows and through generous sponsors we are able to add more students and volunteers to participate in the activities and enhance the experience.  Our first Giant Steps program consisted of 59 students and approximately 35 volunteers.  This year we expect 160 students and 150+ volunteers.  For those of us that have been blessed to see the excitement on the faces of the Giant Steps students when they put on their own jersey and participate in the football drills and activities the challenges and tribulations of life fade away and is replaced with pride and satisfaction that such a gathering can take place and make someone so happy.

The Tri City Charger Youth Football Association is reaching out and looking for corporate sponsors to participate in this great event and truly make a difference in a young life.  The Tri City Charger Youth Football Association is a 501 (c)(3) organization.
